mY STORY

My story is rooted in my Deaf identity and lived experience. I was born in 2004 in Cambridgeshire and am now based in the Midlands. Diagnosed with bilateral profound hearing loss at birth, and later with autism at 13 and ADHD at 21, my lived experience shapes both my life and my artistic practice. I was born to hearing parents, while my social world is Deaf, placing me between cultures and languages. Living with multiple disabilities has often meant there is no single space where I fully belong. My work explores these in-between states, addressing the cultural, social, and linguistic realities of Deaf people and the power dynamics between spoken English, written language, and British Sign Language. Working across sculpture, typography, and material-based processes, I challenge the dominance of speech and centre BSL as a complete and embodied language. Hand sculptures form one method within my practice, using the physicality of the hands to explore communication, translation, access, and visibility.
